About
Coronavirus Connections

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, current guidelines recommend that we maintain physical distance between ourselves and others, and that we stay home as much as possible to decrease the risk of exposure and reduce transmission of the virus.  The recommendations may change over the coming months, but it is likely some aspects of our lives will continue to be impacted.

Many community organizations and places where people normally gather to socialize are now closed.  At a time when people are advised to maintain physical distance from others, it is important to remain in social contact with one another.

This project provides an online community for older adults who want to stay socially connected and share their thoughts.

The project includes writing prompts you can use for journal writing at home, or to share your ideas with others on this website. We hope that by sharing our thoughts and reading others’ postings, we can all learn from each other, be reminded of our connection, and know we are not alone in how we are feeling and what we are experiencing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A member of The Center in Iowa City proposed the idea for this project to Dr. Erin Barnes at the University of Iowa.

In collaboration with several students from the University of Iowa's Rehabilitation Counseling Program, this website is being maintained and monitored by student volunteers.
